WinZO launches $20 million game developer fund

Published on:

Regional language social gaming platform WinZO has announced the launch of a $20 million fund for the Indian game developer ecosystem.

In conjunction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission, WinZO aims to fund projects in interactive entertainment space built by Indian game developers. The company has been periodically empowering the gaming space through a host of investments.

The gaming start-up has pumped in the capital between small local and international studios, which have developed close to 70 games listed on its platform. The platform witnesses close to two billion micro-transactions each month.

Founded in early 2018 by Paavan Nanda and Saumya Singh Rathore, WinZO partners with third-party developers to host games on its Android app. WinZO features over 70 skill-based games such as board games, battle royales, and arcade games on its Android app in 12 regional languages

In July this year, WinZO raised $65 million in its Series C round, led by California-based Griffin Gaming Partners, a global gaming fund.

This financing followed only eight months after the company raised its Series B from returning investors Makers Fund, Courtside Ventures, and Steve Pagliuca, Co-Chairman of Bain Capital. Phil Sanderson, Co-Founder of Griffin Gaming Partners, will join WinZO’s board of directors.

The company has grown its revenues tenfold over the last 12 months and has partnered with over 100 leading game developers to realize the full potential of the Indian mobile gaming market through in-game integration of WinZO’s social gaming framework.

With a focus on competitive multiplayer gaming experiences, WinZO is aiming to create a culturally relevant mobile games platform with broad-based adoption.

WinZO wants to position itself at the forefront of Indian gaming culture with an expansive influencer network catering to more than 50 million registered users.
