Post the passage of the Karnataka Police Amendment Bill, the state’s police force seems to be coming down heavily on online gaming involving monetary stakes. SilkRummy is the latest target in the laundry list of applications that had to face the wrath of the new gambling law.

Special Inquiry Wing of the Central Crime Branch, on Friday, filed a complaint with the Cottonpet police against an online gambling company accusing its owner under various sections of the Karnataka Police Act. In the complaint, CCB Inspector Shivaprasad said he posed as a player and logged on to the game run by SilkRummy.

The company allegedly induces players to deposit Rs 10,000 to play after a few rounds of meager investments. This fits the definition of a game of chance which is a transgression of the Karnataka Police Amendment Act, Mr. Shivaprasad said in his complaint.

A case has been filed against SilkRummy and the owner.

Recently an FIR was lodged against fantasy gaming leader Dream11 with Annapoorneshwari Nagar police station under the Bengaluru city limits, reported news channel Tv9 Kannada.

Most of the real money gaming operators have already blocked access to residents of Karnataka after the state government notified the online gaming ban law for stakes with immediate effect on October 5. The law passed last month by the legislature received governor assent on October 4.
