Hyderabad: Police arrest six people for gambling

The Rachakonda police on this weekend raided a resort at Keesara on Hyderabad outskirts and caught six persons who were found gambling. The police seized Rs. 65,610 cash, five mobile phones, and playing cards from the accused. A case under Telangana State Gaming Act, 1974 is booked and an investigation going on reported Telangana Today.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rachakonda Special Operations Team (SOT) raided the Rustic Vogue Resort at Yadgarpalli in Keesara around 1 a.m on Saturday night and found persons playing three cards games and gambling. All the accused were handed over to the Keesara police station for further action.

One Manohar Reddy Sanga Reddy of Kapra invited his friends and they were gambling when the raid was conducted,” the SOT officials were quoted by local media houses. The police also arrested the supervisor of the resort for permitting the illegal activity on the premises.

This is the third reported incident of gambling in recent months from Hyderabad. Earlier, in a high-profile catch, the Cyberabad police arrested Tollywood actor Naga Shaurya’s father Shivalinga Prasad. The key accused Gutta Suman Kumar was booked under the stringent The Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, 1986.

On this Diwali night, the Hyderabad police raided a Diwali after-party and registered cases on businessman Arvind Agarwal under a similar section for organising gambling. As many as three ruling party MLAs and an MLC reportedly took part in the gambling activity at Begumpet but managed to get away after the interference of a city-based minister. Rachakonda, Cyberabad, and Hyderabad are three commissionerates having jurisdiction over Hyderabad metropolis.
